The seminar is an intergenerational meeting of European sinologists. This year, its participants will focus on the issues of Chinese art history. It will take place three years after the opening of the Taiwan Resource Centre for Chinese Studies at the JU Faculty of Philology.

The series of lectures by Prof. Dr. Sheng-Ching Chang 張省卿
“Chinese Art History” 中國藝術史
will be the main part of the academic event addressed to sinology students as well as the wider audience.
This lectures in series introduces the development of Chinese art history in six scopes and six themes, including six major items: urban, garden, architecture, painting, sculpture and handicrafts. Specific works of art pictures will be used in the presentations, including the most important of the history of Beijing, the “Suzhou Garden” designed by the Southern literati, the Chinese Buddhist architecture “Nanjing Porcelain Tower”, and the most important collection of the National Palace Museum in Taipei. “Mountain Travel Map”, “Wanyu Songfeng”, Buddhist Culture “Buddha statue” and Chinese Craftsmanship with “Blue and White Porcelain”, etc. will be shown to introduce, analyse and explain the characteristics of various art developments in Chinese history. Time will be used as the axis, supplemented by other relevant important works of art placed in the context of art history, from the royal family, the literati, the folks, etc. The art of class explores artistic skills, craft style, artistic value, historical meaning and humanistic meaning, etc.

The lectures will be accompanied by MA/BA/PhD panels for students who would like to share their passion for the Chinese language and culture and present their academic papers in the fields related to China and Taiwan.
